If your transmission uses a slip yoke, push it all the way into the transmission, then back it out 3/4 to 1 inch (or to desired running position). The same applies for transfer cases with slip yokes.
Measure from the center of the u-joint cap in the transmission yoke, to the center of the u-joint cap at the rear-end. For half round yokes, the center of the cap would be where the u-joint straps bolt in.
If you have a flange yoke, measure to the flat face of the yoke.
Make sure the vehicle is at ride height, with weight on the axles.
If your transmission uses a slip yoke, push it all the way into the transmission, then back it out 3/4 to 1 inch (or to desired running position). Make sure any carrier bearing bracket is mounted in place.
Measure from the center of the u-joint cap at the transmission to center of the carrier bearing bracket holes, or where the carrier bearing attaches to the frame, then to center of the rear u-joint cap. For half round yokes, center of the cap would be where the u-joint straps bolt in.
If you have a flange yoke, measure to the flat face of the yoke.
If your truck has more than 1 carrier bearing, measure from center of the carrier bearing mounting holes to center of the next carrier bearing mounting holes. Make sure the vehicle is at ride height, with weight on the axles.
Measure from the end of the output shaft of the PTO to the end of the input shaft of the Pump.
Check the outer diameter of both shafts and key size. For splined shafts, measure the outer diameter and count the splines.
Measure the outer diameter of the caps. For external clips measure the span across the u-joint from end of cap to end of cap. For internal clips measure the inside edge of one of the clip groves across to the other.
